Athlete Highlight – Sarah Ryan

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN
INTO SPORTS?
IF SO
WHAT DID YOU PLAY, EVENTS YOU HAVE DONE, FITNESS ROUTINES YOU HAVE TRIED?

No, I haven’t always been into sports and didn’t realize I had a competitive side until I started CrossFit. I played volleyball for a short while in school until suffering a knee injury. I grew up in a family full of dancers, so naturally I took to dancing more than other sports; went through about 3 years of it in a class setting but mostly did it for fun. Get me a good drink and a dance floor and you’ll see a whole different side of me. I needed to find a way to stay active while in college, which is when I discovered yoga. I have now been practicing for about 6 years and have seen improvement with it since incorporating CrossFit into my routine.

BIGGEST CF ACCOMPLISHMENT?

Not quitting. I first tried CrossFit about 4 years ago but fell out of it because life got busy. Fast forward a couple of years and I had my son. Life got busier, but I knew I had to get back into working out just to have the energy to keep up with a toddler. While some days its takes everything out of me to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, I know it’s not for nothing.

CF GOAL FOR THE FUTURE?

Near future: connecting toes to bar. They’re so fun, and I’m sure they’ll be even more fun once I can connect them. Distant future: handstand walk.

Favorite Pasttime?

Hiking, eating, range shooting. Not all at the same time although that would be impressive.

FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?

Hard question. I love all food, but I would have to say my mom’s spaghetti and chocolate cake (no frosting) with vanilla bean ice cream (one scoop).

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO IS SCARED TO TRY CROSS FIT?

You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you work through the scary parts, so show up and have fun with it. Even on the days you don’t feel like going GO, those are the days you will surprise yourself.

TRY OUT CrossFit just like Sarah did and you won’t regret it. Click here to get started.
