Athlete Highlight: Clarissa Espinoza

WHAT DID YOU PLAY, EVENTS YOU HAVE DONE, FITNESS ROUTINES YOU HAVE TRIED?

Yes! When I was about 9 I started Taekwondo and got up to a blue belt  until a cheer gym opened up next door, then I did competitive cheerleading for about 6 years. Throughout middle school and high school I ran both track and cross country, and was on the Midlothian High School cheer team. Now I am in a family of avid crossfitters and take a few yoga classes to ease the pain. CrossFit is my favorite because it keeps me well rounded, but I am always down for a fun run or obstacle race, so if you need a running buddy, I’m your girl!

BIGGEST CF ACCOMPLISHMENT?

I think my biggest accomplishment has been continuously overcoming my mental obstacles. Accepting failure, knowing your limits, and then making a mental note to improve next time. It’s not hard when you always have encouragement from amazing coaches and community. (I also got on the board for Push Press, WOOHOO!)

 

 

 

CF GOAL FOR THE FUTURE?

 

Hopefully a Muscle Up is in my near future, but those things are hard!

 Favorite Pasttime?

Crossfit is my favorite passtime! I also just like to relax in my hammock and read.


FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?

 

All things chocolate.

 

 


WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO IS SCARED TO TRY CROSS FIT?

It’s okay to be scared. Just ask questions when you need to. I am constantly asking the coaches about technique and to watch my movements I’m not fully comfortable with for feedback. Don’t be intimidated by the beasts at the box, everyone starts somewhere and you too, can become a beast!
