Athlete Highlight: Michael Shearer

What motivated you to start CrossFit? 

I have been involved in the CrossFit community in some way/shape/form for the better part of the last 6 or so years.. My return came on the heels of my wife and I buying a house in Waxahachie, leaving the Olympic weightlifting community, but still having the urge to challenge myself in regards to my physical fitness. Sarah had joined this community a few months prior, and I felt the need/motivation to do the exact same. Also I have a very active toddler at home that I need to stay on my toes for years to come!

What has been your greatest accomplishment since starting? 

Probably the fact that I can run a sub-7 minute mile and still clean & jerk 300# LOL oh! And double unders, finally!

CrossFit goal for the future? 

Butterfly pull-ups, and hopefully muscle-ups!

What does life look like outside the box? Hobbies, cheat meals, meal prepping, etc… 

I love traveling with my family! I love eating (give me any food challenge and I will slay it). I typically prep my lunches/dinners for the week, and on weekends live a little (2 pints of Ben & Jerry non-dairy ice cream/week)! I just enjoy being active and spending time with my family when I’m not in the gym or at work

What would you tell someone who is scared to try CrossFit?

There’s no reason to be afraid of CrossFit, if you find the right community, and programming, it is for everyone, regardless of your background!
